Tools Every Electrician Needs

Our everyday lives have become so reliant on electricity that without it we would have a hard time going about our day. It’s not that we can’t survive without electricity but it’s the fact that this power of nature is at times too convenient. But why is that the case? Well to understand why electricity is so convenient we need to understand first how it works.

Putting it simply, electricity is the flow of electrons that happens between atoms. Of course, you can’t see that with the naked eye but it’s thanks to that little behaviour that we are able to enjoy a lot of today’s commodities. But another reason why that’s the case nowadays is the fact that electrical hardware and infrastructure are both maintained. This is thanks to electricians and their wide array of electric tools.
Wire Strippers

Essential Electrical Equipment

Wire Strippers

While there is no electric tool that is more important than another wire strippers can be one of those tools that are as important as the flow of electricity. Why? Because these electrical equipment tools do one job and they do it well – removing the insulating sheath from cables. This is done to attach either connectors or terminals to the central core of the cable either by soldering or crimping.

Spanners

Your kit of electric tools should not be without a few spanners. This is because a spanner is used to attach or loosen bolts, buts, and other similar fixings and there is a lot of that in electrical installations. A spanner works by being able to make for a close fit between the head of the fixing and apply torque to it simply by twisting.
Insulated Screwdrivers

Insulated Screwdrivers

One of the most conventional tools when it comes to electrical installations are screwdrivers. Well, in this case, insulated screwdrivers are made so that you are safe while working next to a live wire. Electricians can’t go without screwdrivers as they are present almost everywhere, in sockets, electrical containers, and even switch boxes.

Tape

I know that tape is used to hold things together but what use will tape serve in electrical installations? Electrical tape as it’s also known is used to insulated wires or other electrical hardware that is able to conduct electricity. Electrical tape is mainly used for safety reasons as it prevents the conducting core from abrasion, heat, and liquids too.

Pliers

There are many types of pliers but the ones you need to get are insulated pliers. You should always buy electrical tools that are properly insulated and pliers are one of them.

Coax Connector

When working with electrical installation you will need electrical equipment tools to help you link different types of electrical hardware together. For this, you’ll need coax connectors. They are used to link cable to devices and they also provide protection for cable from shredding.

Multimeter

Testing and checks are constant when working with electricity as you need to ensure that whatever you’ll need to work in is safe. A multimeter is a device that lets you check if a circuit or wire is live or not. This is an indispensable device that can literally save your life.
Voltage Tester

Voltage Tester

If you want a similar testing device that doesn’t come with all the bells and whistles found on a multimeter then get a voltage tester. As its name implies, a voltage tester is only able to check for the amount of voltage present in a circuit. With a multimeter, you can check amperage and resistance too.

Utility Knife

Also known as a safety knife, a utility knife is a specialist professional tool that we all know as box cutters. As an electrician, you’d want to have a box cutter with you in order to make safe and precise cuts quickly. Utility knives come in all kinds of sizes and shapes so make sure you get one that feels natural to hold.

Tape Measure

A tape measure is a standard tool no matter what your profession is about. As an electrician, you’ll use it to measure the height for switches and outsells as well as for centring lighting fixture boxes and marking cutouts. Look for a tape measure with a magnetic tip and a multi-step lock to make measuring even easier.

Claw Hammer

Claw Hammer

Why should you get a claw hammer but not a regular one? Because a claw hammer comes with a standard hammer on one side of it and a dual steel claw on the other side. The dual steel claw allows you to remove nails and fixtures more easily.

Level

You may think that a level will not be useful to an electrician but you are wrong. Even a small torpedo level can help you keep boxes, switches, and outlet covers levelled. No one wants to have out of place outlets in their household as it doesn’t look good, except if it’s an art installation.
